What is uPVC?

What is uPVC?

uPVC, or Unplasticized Polyvinyl Chloride, is a high-quality, modern material widely used in construction for its strength, durability, and low maintenance requirements. It is especially popular for windows and doors due to its ability to withstand harsh weather conditions, resist water and corrosion, and retain its appearance over time.

Lightweight yet strong, uPVC is designed to offer long-lasting performance without the need for constant upkeep, making it a practical and reliable choice for homes and buildings. Its clean modern look, exceptional durability and excellent fire rating make it an ideal choice for Australian constructions.

How uPVC Windows and Doors are made and why they’re the perfect choice

uPVC windows and doors are crafted using advanced manufacturing techniques to create durable, modern, and energy-efficient solutions. The process involves precision cutting, welding, and reinforcing with steel to ensure strength and reliability. Unlike timber or aluminum options, uPVC uses fusion-welded joints for a seamless finish that prevents air and water leaks.

The multi-chambered profiles are designed to provide excellent thermal and acoustic insulation, supporting double or triple glazing for added comfort and energy efficiency. uPVC is also highly fire-resistant, corrosion-free, and built to withstand UV rays, so it won’t fade, warp, or become brittle over time.

At Lumeta Windows, we use German made Kommerling 100% lead-free uPVC profiles, manufactured to exceed the worlds highest standards.

What exactly is Double Glazing?

Double Glazed windows and doors feature two glass panes that have been bonded together by a spacer, but remain separated by a gap of between 6mm and 20mm. This gap is hermetically sealed and filled with argon gas to provide an added layer of insulation.

Ideally, double glazed windows and doors should use toned or low-E glass to improve their performance.

The key differences between single and double glazed windows and doors lies in this crucial ‘gap’ and the unique insulative benefits that it creates. Check out the various benefits of uPVC double glazing below.

Why Choose uPVC?

Benefits of uPVC & Double Glazing

Noise reducing doors & windows

Noise reducing doors & windows

Double-glazing a home can provide massive reductions in outside noise levels; up to 44db of reduction can be achieved (industrial ear muffs provide only 33db) making Lumeta windows and doors ideal for busy roads and high traffic locations.

Energy saving doors & windows

Thermally efficient doors & windows

Double glazing provides a significant reduction in heating and cooling costs. Up to 48% of household energy is lost through single glazed windows and doors as roof insulation is nullified without also insulating windows and doors.

Weather resistance

Weather resistance for Australian conditions

Lumeta double glazed windows and doors are uniquely manufactured for the Australian climate. They will not warp, twist, crack or discolour and are unaffected by saltwater air, are UV resistant, water tight and draught proof.

Strong and durable

Strong and durable

The high-performance compound exclusively developed  by Kömmerling is KOMALIT Z. The longevity and superior quality of this material has been conclusively proven over 30 years. This Kömmerling owned material compound exceeds world-wide standards for strength, durability, head stability, colour retention and termite resistance.

Low maintenance

Low maintenance

Kömmerling uPVC window and door systems do not require regular painting and expensive maintenance. They do not rot, warp nor corrode even in tropical or salty coastal climates. Therefore, their maintenance is reduced to simple cleaning and does not involve any further costs.
Environmentally Friendly

Environmentally Friendly

Lumeta frames are manufactured from high quality uPVC (Unplasticised Polyvinyl Chloride). The production of uPVC requires a fraction of the energy that it does to manufacture aluminium, and being predominantly made from salt (Chloride) which is renewable and plentiful, makes for a better alternative to threatened timber species.
